FIVE STRAIGHT WINS FOR LIONS WITH VICTORY OVER GOLDEN HAWKS

The York University Lions women's basketball team beat the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks 82-60 at the Tait McKenzie Center on Saturday, Nov. 17 for their fifth win in a row.
 
The Lions took the first quarter of the game finishing with a 22-17. Hailey Bowie, York's point guard, was able to score several successful three-point shots for the Lions, which contributed to the Lions early lead in the first quarter.
 
In the second quarter of the game, the Golden Hawks were able to make a slight comeback. They scored 14 points in the quarter, which temporarily gave them a lead over the Lions who scored ten points in the second quarter.
 
At one point in the second quarter, the Lions and the Golden Hawks were tied 23-23 with just over five minutes remaining. With 37 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Laurier called a time out. Following, the Lions were able to score two more times to pick up the lead from the Golden Hawks and go into halftime with 32-31.  
 
The Lions found the momentum they had in the first quarter into the third as they scored two back-to-back threes in the first few seconds. The first coming from Bowie and the second from Katrina Collins-Samuels.
 
Soon after Bowie's three, she was able to steal the ball from the Golden Hawks, make a run for it down the court and score another two points for the Lions. In the third quarter, the Lions controlled the play for the majority of the quarter outscoring the Hawks 27-12.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Lions maintained their lead and scored23 more points against the Golden Hawks to secure the 82-60.
 
Bowie was the leading scorer for the Lions with 22 points and six assists on the night, while both Emma Jonas and Collins-Samuels added 14 points. Forward Cyanna King also had a solid night with nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds.  
 
The Lions will be playing their next game against the Lakehead Thunderwolves in Thunder Bay, Ont. on Saturday Nov. 24 at 6pm.
