LIONS LOSE HIGH-SCORING GAME TO BADGERS 6-3

The York University Lions women's hockey team lost 6-3 against the Brock Badgers on Sunday, Nov. 18 at Canlan Ice Sports.

The first period of the game ended 0-0 for the Lions and the Badgers. Both teams had several scoring opportunities, however, strong defense from both sides prevented any attempt at securing a goal.

In the second period of the game, the Badgers were able to capitalize on their opportunities and scored a trio of goals on the home team within the first five minutes of the period.

The Badgers' first goal came from forward Morgan Dezell with assists from Amanda Ieradi and Kat Whiteye. Brock's second goal of the game came just a minute after the first at 3:58. The goal came from the Badger's Hunter Accursi, assisted by Maggie Spratt-Mallick and Makyla Porter. They scored their third goal in a row at 4:12 into the game, which was secured by Whiteye.

York was able to score their first goal in the second period at 14:42 into play by Kelsey McHolm, who scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season for the Lions.

Just under a minute later, however, Brock answered York's goal and scored their fourth goal of the game by forward Kimberly Brown. The Lions and the Badgers finished the second period with Brock leading 4-1.

The Lions started the third period with a goal from Steffei Samuels, which was assisted by Ellen Donaldson. They scored their third goal of the game as the Lions charged from behind Brock's net and Natalie Dean scored with an assist from Taylor Davison

The Badgers were able to score their fifth goal at 15:38 and their sixth goal was on an open net.

The Lions will be playing the Nipissing Lakers in Nipissing, Ont. on Nov. 23 in their next game.
