The York University Lions women's hockey team beat the Nipissing Lakers in overtime on Friday Nov. 23, in North Bay, Ont., smashing a three-game losing streak.

The first period of the game saw both teams making an appearance on the scoreboard. However, the Lakers were the first to complete a successful shot on goal at 5:27, which was fired by forward Kaley Tienhaara with assists from teammates Zosia Davis and Jetta Derenoski.

The Lions answered 59 seconds later when forward
Avery Reeves found the back of the net, assisted by
Natalie Dean and
Kara Washer. The two teams went into the second period tied 1-1.

In the second period, the Lions doubled the Lakers in goals in a sandwiched scoring pattern when the Lions scored two goals, followed by two goals from Nipissing and another two from York.

York's first two goal scoreres were
Kelsey McHolm and
Courtney Gardiner, followed by goals from Nipissing's Natalie Graham and Kaitlyn McManus, which brought the score to a 3-3 tie for the Lions and the Lakers. Lions forward
Brooke Anderson then scored a goal for York at 17:08 and ten seconds later at 17:18, McHolm was able to secure her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Nipissing were the sole scorers of the third period where Davis, who contributed with an assist for Nipissing's first goal, scored a goal of her own at 8:54, which was followed by a goal from the Lakers' Brianna Gaffney.

The teams were tied 5-5 at the end of the third period and went into overtime. York forward
Kara Washer scored the game-winner and her third goal of the season at 1:16 of overtime to give the Lions a 6-5 win over Nipissing in a high-scoring affair.

The Lions will be playing the Laurentian Voyageurs tomorrow (Nov. 24) in Sudbury, Ont.
