LIONS SCORE BIG WIN ON ROAD OVER LANCERS

The York University Lions men's basketball team were able to lead the Windsor Lancers through all four quarters and come away with a 76-73 victory at St. Denis Centre on Friday evening. The win for the Lions snapped a lengthy regular season losing streak for the squad dating back to last season and evens their record at 1-1 on the year.

Despite the Lions leading all four quarters, the Lancers were the first to get on the scoreboard earning five points from two-layups and a free throw. Chevon Brown scored the Lions' first points with a jump shot, followed by Nicholas Duncan who sunk a 3-pointer. The quarter was close in points from both the Lions and Lancers, however after a 3-point jump shot by Prince Kamunga that brought the score to 11-9, the Lions continued to lead and finished the quarter with a score of 18-17.

During the second quarter the Lions and Lancers were again almost even in points as the game stayed close. The Lancers pulled in front early in the quarter, the Lions were able to reclaim their lead and finish off the quarter 32-30 after a layup by Somto Dimanochie.

The Lions earned their biggest lead near the end of the third quarter with a score of 54-43, after a 3-pointer by Brown. The Lions outscored the Lancers in the third period with 22 points compared to the Lancers' 16.

Windsor added 27 more points in the fourth quarter and took the lead 66-64 late in the game after a 3-point jump shot by Chris Poloniato. However, the Lions managed to halt the Lancers run and secure the win late in the game. With one-minute remaining, Brown made four three throws and one lay-up to clinch the Lions' win.

Duncan had a terrific game in his first game in a Lions uniform, leading the team with 19 points, two rebounds and one assist. Dimanochie added 14 points, five rebounds and two assists, along with Chevon Brown with 13 points, seven rebounds, and one assist.

The Lions will be travelling to London, Ont. to face the Western Mustangs on Nov. 3. The game is scheduled to start at 8pm.
