LIONS DEFEATED 3-0 BY FIRST PLACE RAMS

The York University women's volleyball team were defeated by the Ryerson Rams 3-0 on Friday evening at Tait Mackenzie Centre.

The Rams, who went undefeated in the 2017-18 season, and won the U SPORTS women's volleyball championships, sit in first place in the OUA East division with a 6-1 record. With the loss, the Lions are still tied in second-place with the Toronto Varsity Blues sharing a 5-2 record.

It was the Rams who dominated the first set racking up a total of 15 consecutive points at the start of the game before the Lions were able to earn one for themselves. After the Lions earned a point from a Ryerson serve that went out of bounds, it was the Rams who earned one last point to lead the Lions 16-1 midway through the set. The Lions were able to add four more points before the end of the set, but the Rams topped the Lions 25-5.

The Lions came out strong and challenged the Rams in the second set. The Lions picked up their biggest lead 7-1 at the start of the set. The Lions continued to lead the Rams throughout the first half of the set, and despite the Rams tying the Lions 15-15, it was the Lions who earned the last point to lead before the midway break. The game was extremely tight near the end of the set as the score was tied 24-24. A block by Aleksandra Steins brought the score to 25-24, however the score was tied four more times until the end of the set. Despite a strong effort by the Lions, it was the Rams who earned the final set point to win 30-28 and take a 2-0 lead.

Celeste Witzell earned the first point for the Lions at the start of the third set, however the Rams controlled the first half of the set and picked up an 8-point lead with a score of 16-8 by the midway break. The Rams managed to win the final set of the game 25-14 to defeat the Lions 3-0.
