The York University Lions men's volleyball team lost to the Guelph Gryphons with a final score of 3-1 on Friday, Nov. 2 in Guelph, Ont.
The Lions won their first set as they battled their way towards a 26-24 win against the Gryphons.Â
In the final three sets, however, the Gryphons were able to secure the each set to take victory over the Lions. In the second set, the Gryphons surpassed the Lions by seven points, giving them a 25-18 win.
With the game tied 1-1 going into the third set, the Gryphons won by a closer margin over the Lions who scored 21 points against Guelph's 25. In the final set of the game, the Gryphons and the Lions battled it out just like in the beginning of the game and they were forced to play a game over 25-points. In the end, Guelph beat York 26-24.Â
The Lions'
Andrew Tauhid and
Tyler Covach led the team in points with 16 and had 15 and 13 kills respectively. Setter
Logan Mend accumulated a grand total of 44 assists throughout the game to go along with three service aces and four digs.Â
Conversely, Guelph's Zarco Ubiparip led in kills, with 12 and the Gryphons' Oliver Hissink led in assists, with 29.Â
The Lions will be hosting the Trent Excalibur at the Tait McKenzie Centre on Sunday Nov. 4 at 5pm for their next game.Â
