LIONS EARN BIG ROAD WIN AGAINST MARAUDERS

The York University men's basketball team defeated the McMaster Marauders 91-81 on Friday evening in Hamilton, Ont.

Despite a comeback attempt by the Marauders in the third quarter, the Lions led the Marauders throughout all four quarters. The Marauders and the Lions were evenly matched holding similar records on the season. The Lions entered the game with a 3-5 record, while the Marauders had a 4-5 record. The Lions dominated the first two quarters adding 27 points in the first and 29 points in the second. The Marauders could not match the Lions' tempo, adding only 19 points in the first quarter and 17 points in the second. It was Somto Dimanochie who added the first two points for the Lions at the start of the game, and Prince Kamunga who made the final free throw to end the first quarter leading 27-19.

Despite the Marauders opening the second quarter with five consecutive points, Brendon Chevannes made the first jump-shot that got the Lions back in their game. The Lions managed to pick up a 16-point lead midway through the quarter after three pointers by both Kamunga and Gianmarco Luciani. The Lions ended the quarter leading the Marauders by 20 points, 56-36.

Near the end of the third quarter, the Marauders made a comeback attempt, and with only one minute remaining the score was 63-61 for the Lions. The Lions held strong defensively and ended the quarter with a layup by Nana Adu-Poku and a jumpshot by Luciani to lead 67-61. The Lions continued to impress in the fourth quarter, ending the game with a dunk by Chevon Brown.

Leading the way for the Lions was Luciani who earned himself 19 points, six rebounds and three steals.
