The York University women's basketball team were defeated by the McMaster Marauders 84-62 on Friday evening in Hamilton, Ont.

The Marauders were a tough opponent for the Lions as they are sitting in first place in the OUA West division with 8-2 record this season. With the loss, the Lions now have a 5-4 record and sit in the middle of the pack in the OUA East division after their second last game before the winter break. Â

The Marauders kept a strong lead on the Lions throughout all four quarters to earn themselves their eighth win. In the first quarter, after five consecutive points by the Marauders, the Lions earned their first points with a three-pointer by Megan Macleod. Despite the Lions keeping it close throughout the first half of the quarter, the Marauders added 23 points to lead the Lions 23-14.

Midway through the second quarter, the Marauders nearly reached a 20-point lead on the Lions. The Marauders managed to add another 23 points while the Lions added 15. The Marauders increased their lead by six outscoring the Lions 20-14 in the third quarter, and  despite the Lions outscoring McMaster 19-18 in the fourth quarter, the Marauders did enough to earlier in the game to cruise to the win. Chante Clarke earned 11 points, four rebounds and two assists, while
Lauren Golding had 10 points, 14 rebounds, and three steals for the Lions. Leading the way for the Marauders was Sarah Gates with 22 points, five rebounds, and two steals.

The Lions are back in action tomorrow, Dec. 1, to take on the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines, Ont. The game is scheduled to start at 6pm.
