LIONS EDGED BY BLUES TO WRAP UP REGULAR SEASON AT HOME

The York University Lions women's basketball team wrapped up the home portion of its regular season on Saturday night with a narrow 59-57 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues at the Tait McKenzie Centre.

The Lions raced out to an early 18-9 lead after the first quarter of play, but the Blues outscored the Lions in each of the next three quarters to come back and win the game.

The contest was tied at 53-53 with 3:45 remaining after rookie Lauren Golding sank a three-pointer, but the Blues then scored four unanswered points to regain the lead. A basket by Diedre Edwards put the game out of reach with 90 seconds remaining.

For the second straight game, forward Chante Clarke led the Lions in scoring, this time with 17 points. She added seven rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block.

Katrina Collins-Samuels contributed 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and one steal, while graduating senior Lindsay Shotbolt, playing in the final regular-season home game of her career, added eight points and a game-high 19 rebounds.

The Blues were led by team leading scorer Keyira Parkes, who put up 20 points, four rebounds and two steals.

The Lions dropped to 11-10 with the loss and are back into a tie with the Ryerson Rams for fourth place in the OUA East standings with two games remaining. The Lions will wrap up the regular season next weekend on the road in the nation's capital, against No. 1 Carleton on Friday night and Ottawa on Saturday.
