LIONS FLIRT WITH UPSET IN EVENTUAL LOSS TO NO. 1 RAVENS

The York University Lions women's basketball team played a tight contest against the No. 1 nationally-ranked Carleton Ravens in Ottawa on Friday night in an eventual 54-45 loss to the undefeated squad.

The Lions held the lead at 45-44 with just over four minutes remaining in the game, but the talented Ravens put together a run to close out the final frame and maintain their perfect season. Carleton continues to sit at the top of the OUA East Division standings with a 22-0 record, while the Lions dropped to 11-11 and sit fifth, one game back of Ryerson.

The Ravens raced out to an early 12-7 lead after the first quarter and looked poised to run away with the game early. But the Lions battled back, outscoring the Ravens 15-8 in the second quarter to carry a 22-20 lead into the half.

The Lions stretched that advantage to five after three quarters, at 36-31, but the dominant Ravens came storming back in the fourth, outscoring the Lions 23-9 for the win.

Fifth-year senior Lindsay Shotbolt, playing against her former team for the last time, put up 10 points and added a game-high 16 rebounds for the Lions, while Haley Bowie contributed 13 points, two rebounds and three steals off the bench.

Carleton also had two players reach double digits in scoring. Catherine Traer finished with a game-high 19 points to go along with four rebounds, two assists and four steals, and Nicole Gilmore had 10 points. Heather Lindsay led the Ravens with 10 rebounds.

The Lions will wrap up the regular season on Saturday night against the Ottawa Gee-Gees and need a win in order to have a chance to host a home playoff game when the post-season gets underway next week. Tip-off in the nation's capital is set for 6pm.
