The York Lions men's soccer team topped the Guelph Gryphons on Wednesday, Aug. 29 at Alumni Field after a massive comeback in the final minutes of the game.
 
The game was action-packed and aggressive from the moment it got kicked off, which is expected from two of the strongest teams in U SPORTS. The tension was palpable from the stands and visible from the field. About a dozen fouls were called in the first half of the fast-paced game.
 
Guelph had many chances within the first ten minutes to score against York, with two corner kicks, however, the Gryphons were unable to complete their attempts.
 
It was in the 16th minute of the game when York's Steve Kloutsouniotis got some early action on the field and scored the first goal of the game. In the 28th minute Guelph responded to York's goal and scored, bringing the score to a 1-1 tie. The game remained tied heading into half-time
 
Three minutes into the second-half, Guelph's Jace Kotsopoulos scored the Gryphons second goal of the game to give them a 2-1 lead.
 
The Lions attempted to respond with a few more shots but were unable to score and it looked like the Gryphons were going to cruise to a victory.
 
With six minutes remaining, Guelph defender Willem Grant got called for a handball. York's Cristian Cavallini took the penalty kick and scored, tying the game at 2-2.  
 
Guelph, feeling the pressure, attempted to score against York to take back the lead. The Lions responded well though and two minutes after Cavallini's goal, midfielder Maurizio Ragone scored in the 88^th minute to give the Lions an incredible comeback win.  
 
The Lions will be playing next against the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday, Aug. 31 at 3:15pm.
