YORK FALLS TO GOLDEN HAWKS ON LATE PENALTY KICK

The York University women's soccer team played on the road against Laurier on Friday and fell to the Golden Hawks by a score of 2-1.

The Lions opened up the game strong and brought the pressure as early within the first five minutes of the game they scored first thanks to a goal by Lions midfielder Christina Morelli.

The remaining of the first half of the game saw many scoring chances from both York and Laurier. The Lions attempted six more shots in the first half which almost gave them a second goal, including one from midfielder Kalifornia Mitchell who's shot hit the crossbar.

By the second half of the game, the Golden Hawks answered York's first goal as they tied the game 1-1 just after the first minute on a goal by Erin Braun.

The Lions kept defending their net as the Golden Hawks attempted four more shots in the second half. Lions keeper Tamara Orlando was able to save three of the shots before letting one in on a penalty kick in the 84th minute by Pauline McCordic, which gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead

The York Lions did not give in after the Golden Hawks pulled ahead as both midfielder Jotam Chouhan and defender Teni Odetoyinbo had chances but they were unable to tie up the game.

The Lions will have a chance to redeem themselves and beat the Golden Hawks on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 6pm at Alumni Field for the special Frosh Frenzy game.
