On Sunday, the York University Lion's women's soccer team defeated the Algoma Thunderbirds by a score of 3-0 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
The Lions scored early in the first five minutes of the game from midfielder
Vanessa Salvaggio.
Playing excellent defence, York did not concede any goals in the first half despite the Thunderbird's efforts, ending the period 1-0.
The second half commenced, and the Lions didn't waste any time getting another goal on the scoreboard. Forward
Kiyani Johnson scored off a pass from
Stephanie Lamanna in the first two minutes of the period, giving the Lions a 2-0 lead. Later on, the Lions would score the final goal, this time from midfielder
Vanessa Santoriello in the 76th minute.
With the win, the Lions have extended their win streak to five games and are now tied for second in the OUA West Division with their rivals the Guelph Gryphons.
The Lions next game is on Friday where they will be playing against the Western Mustangs in London, Ont., at Mustang Field at 6pm.
