The No. 4 nationally ranked York University Lions men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against the McMaster Marauders at the Ron Joyce Stadium on Wednesday night in Hamilton, Ont.
Â
Playing in their third road game in a row, the Lions were looking for a win to go top of the OUA West Division table.
Â
Scoring opportunities were few and far between for both sides. Third-year forward
Merci Yuma tried to get the Lions rolling 13 minutes in, dribbling past his defender he fired a shot on net that was ultimately saved by Marauders keeper
Michael Costanzo.
Â
The Marauders stumbled upon their best scoring chance in the 51
st minute, when Lions goal keeper
Mike Argyrides was called upon to make back to back saves. Marauders midfielder Joseph Guindy fired a shot off a corner-kick that was saved by Argyrides. The ensuing rebound landed to Dusan Kovacevic who fired at point blank range, but even that wasn't enough to get past the Lions keeper.
Â
Argyrides saved all four shots faced, finishing the game with another clean sheet, an OUA leading sixth of the season.
Â
The tie is the second draw in a row for the Lions, who are now tied for first place in the OUA West with the Guelph Gryphons, despite having a game in hand.
Â
The Lions will continue their road trip as they head to St. Catharines, Ont. on Saturday afternoon to face-off against the Brock Badgers. Kick-off is set for 3:15pm.
