LIONS OVERCOME BY RAMS AT HOME 3-1

On Wednesday, the York University Lions men's volleyball team were overpowered by the Ryerson Rams by a final score of 3-1 at Tait Mckenzie centre.

The Lions were coming off of a win against the Queen's Gaels and aimed to keep their win streak alive with an incredible first set. The Rams came out hard earning the first points of the game, but the Lions were quick to gain the tempo scoring three straight points. Although the game was tense and close, the Lions remained in the lead for the majority of the set. In the finality, the Lions added three straight points again with Dan Everton scoring a serve ace to close the set with a score of 25-19.

In the second set, the Lions hoped to keep the momentum up from the start. They succeeded by scoring the first point of the set. Unfortunately, the Rams came back stronger scoring back-to-back points every time the Lions scored one, giving them the Rams the lead for the majority of the set. taking it 25-21.

In the third, the Rams came out and scored five straight points, widening the deficit with a 14-6 lead. The Lions tried hard to come back and tie the game with a great kill from Aleksander Grzegorczyk, but it was to no avail, and the Lions dropped the set 25-17.

In the fourth set, the Lions wanted to redeem themselves, however, the Rams had other plans. Both teams jostled for position after the Rams opened the set with five straight points, but the Lions started to creep closer to gain the lead. Finally, the Lions won an edge with a fantastic block from Andriy Sozanskyy to tie, followed by a great kill from Andrew Shotbolt, giving the Lions a lead at 17-16. The lead was short-lived however, as the Rams came back strong scoring off of a pair of Lions service errors including a kill from Rams player, Navreet Suhan. Luckily the Rams made simple mistakes that helped the Lions regain the lead. But their lead fell flat after Rams Xander Ketrzynski ended the set with a kill, giving the Rams the set 25-23, and the match.

Lions Luke de Greeff led the team with 10 kills, while Everton contributed 19 assists in the effort.
