LIONS RECORD EIGHTH SHUTOUT WITH 1-0 WIN OVER WARRIORS

The No. 4 nationally ranked York University Lions men's soccer team beat the Waterloo Warriors 1-0 on Sunday evening at Alumni Field, extending their undefeated run to 10 games on the season.

The game was off to a slow scoring start as both York and Waterloo's defensive lines blocked one another from getting any successful shots on goal.

It was in the 38th minute of play when York's Cristian Cavallini was able to secure the first goal for the Lions with an assist by Merci Yuma.

The Lions went into the half leading 1-0.

In the second half of the game, the Warriors pressed on but were unable to find the equalizing goal.

This was due in large part to goaltender Mike Argyrides who faced eight shots throughout the game and was able to save three shots on goal.

With the win the Lions are now 20 games undefeated against the Warriors - a streak that dates back to Sept 22, 2010.

The Lions are still tied for first place in the OUA West Division standings with the Guelph Gryphons with 24 points on the season, while the Waterloo Warriors drop to seventh with a total of 10 points.

The Lions take on the Laurier Golden Hawks this Friday. Kick-off is at 1:15pm at Alumni Field.
