The York University Lions women's basketball team lost 57-49 to the No. 4 nationally ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday night in the nation's capital.
York started off beating the Gee-Gees 14-11 in the first quarter. York's
Megan MacLeod was able to dropped six of those points. In the second quarter of the game, the Gee-Gees took the quarter by two points, finishing with 14 to York's 12. By the end of the first half of the game, the Lions were leading by one point, taking a 25-24 win by half time. During the first half, MacLeod finished with 11 points while York's
Lauren Golding scored eight.
It was however in the second half of the game when the Gee-Gees were able to outscore the Lions. Ottawa took the third quarter outscoring York by five points and finishing 15-10 while in the final quarter of the game, they were able to further the margin against York to take a 17-13 win and finish the game ahead of York.
It was once again MacLeod who was able to lead the Lions in points in the second half of the game, however, the Lions were not able to take the game. Golding added in 14 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
Both the Lions and Gee-Gees are third in their respective divisions, both with 10 points.
The Lions will remain in Ottawa as they take on the No. 3 nationally ranked Carlton Ravens tomorrow night. Tip off is at 6pm.
