The No. 7 nationally ranked York University Lions women's hockey team garnered their sixth win of the season as they beat the Laurier Golden Hawks by a massive 4-1 margin on Thursday at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.
Lions forward
Tayler Murphy opened the game with a goal assisted by captain
Erin Locke and
Caroline Eagles. Their first goal was soon followed by a second, this time from third-year forward
Ellen Donaldson, assisted by
Leah Hibbert and
Madison Davey. Laurier was then able to get a goal with minutes remaining in the first period, giving the Lions a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period.
In the second, the Lions were the sole scorers, as well as the strongest offensively as they fired 13 shots on goal to the Golden Hawks' eight. It was York's
Kara Washer whose goal towards the end of the period during a power play, assisted by
Julia McLennan and
Brooke Anderson, boosted the Lions lead in the game to 3-1.
Anderson was able to fire another goal in the third and final period for the Lions, with the assistance of
Taylor Davison and Locke.
The Lions are now 6-1 on the season putting them atop the OUA standings. They will look to continue their winning ways as they play the Western Mustangs on Saturday at 2:15pm at Canlan Ice Sports.
