The York University women's hockey team defeated the Ryerson Rams 4-3 on Friday evening at Mattamy Athletic Centre.
The Lions gained a measure of revenge after falling to the Rams 3-1 on Wednesday night and made a nice comeback leading them to a 4-3 win.
The Rams got on the scoreboard first, scoring late in the first period. At 15:53, Brooklyn Gemmill gave the Rams a 1-0 lead on the Lions. The Rams had scoring chances, taking 11 shots on goal versus the Lions who only took five. The first period ended with the Rams holding onto their 1-0 lead.
The Rams added to their lead, less than two minutes into the second period, with a goal by Ryerson's Kryshanda Green. The Lions were quick to respond, and nearly a minute later, at 2:39,
Kara Washer, who was assisted by
Erin Locke, scored the first goal for the Lions. At 5:16, the Rams added another goal, courtesy of Natalie Pantaleo, to give the Rams a 3-1 lead on the Lions. Nearly a minute later,
Tayler Murphy and Locke assisted
Cynthia St-Cyr bringing the score to just a one goal lead for the Rams. The period ended with the Lions trailing 3-2.
At 4:31, in the third period,
Kara Washer, who was assisted by Locke and St-Cyr, scored her second goal of the night and tied the game 3-3. The Lions picked up their first lead on the Rams at 12:38, when
Courtney Gardiner scored an unassisted goal. The Lions outshot the Rams, taking 11 shots on goal. First-year goaltender,
Serena Vilde, made the first start of her Lions career in tonight's game and made 32 saves to pick up the victory.
The Lions will be playing in their final game of the season, tomorrow, Feb. 16, at Canlan Ice Sports. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7pm.
