Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

LIONS HOLD NO. 8 MUSTANGS TO DRAW AT HOME

The York University Lions women's soccer team held the No. 8 nationally ranked Western Mustangs scoreless to a 0-0 tie on Friday night at Alumni Field.

The division leading Mustangs dominated the game from corner kicks over the Lions 4-0. But it was an even keeled and defensive battle throughout as Western narrowly out shot York 7-6, and 4-3 on net.

The best opportunity in the game came in the 74th minute when rookie left-back Jocelyn Gagliardi's cross found fourth-year forward Kiyani Johnson onside and one on one with Mustang keeper Angelica Galluzzo. Johnson faked her shot right and dribbled left, but Galluzzo was able to sprawl out to deflect the ball away for the crucial save.

The tie proves to be a crucial point for the Lions as they come away with at least a point for the second time against a top 10 opponent.

With the draw, the Lions currently sit in fourth place in the OUA West Division with a 1-1-2 record, while the Mustangs remain on top undefeated 4-0-1.

The Lions will be back at Alumni Field on Sunday to host the Brock Badgers at 6pm. It will be their final home game before going on a four game road trip.
