LIONS EARN THIRD CLEAN SHEET IN DRAW AGAINST BROCK

The York University Lions women's soccer team played the Brock Badges to a 0-0 tie on Sunday night at Alumni Field.

The two squads came into this one with equal records, tied for fifth in the OUA West Division standings.

Contrary to the final score, the Lions stuffed the stat sheet in multiple columns. Controlling the play from start to finish, York dominated from corner kicks 8-1. During play, York out shot Brock 15-5, with eight shots on net.

Kiyani Johnson was the standout attacker for the Lions yet again. In the 90th minute of the match, her headed shot off a Jotam Chouhan free-kick rang right off the cross bar. Johnson pounced on the rebound, heading a second effort towards goal. Badgers keeper Marilena Spagnolo collected herself in time, and made the crucial save.

Fourth-year keeper Danitza Indacochea held strong, earning her third clean sheet in as many games.

With the tie, the Lions stay on equal footing with the Brock Badgers sporting a 1-1-3 record, staying in fifth place.

The Lions will now hit the road for their next four games. Waterloo, Ont. will be their first stop as the play against the Laurier Golden Hawks at University Stadium on Friday. Kick-off is scheduled for 6pm.
