LIONS BATTLE FOR DRAW IN AWAY GAME AGAINST GRYPHONS

The no. 3 nationally ranked York University Lions men's soccer team tied 2-2 with the no. 9 ranked Guelph Gryphons during their away game this Sunday at Alumni Field in Guelph, Ont.

The Gryphons Evan Dick scored the first goal of the game and the only goal of the first half. The Lions fired three shots on goal in the first, however, none were able to find the back of the Gryphons net.

The Gryphons went into half time taking the lead 1-0 against the Lions.

York was able to redeem themselves in the second period. Lions forward Merci Yuma scored the first goal for York, tying the game at 1-1. Yuma's goal was followed by a second goal from the Lions, this time fired by Omar Marzouk, who registered his first goal of the season, which was assisted by Soji Olatoye.

The Lions led 2-1 until Guelph was able to plant a final goal within the last minute of play, tying the game to a final 2-2 draw against the Lions.

The Lions, who have not lost against an OUA opponent since the division leading Gryphons beat them in August 2017, have now stretched their OUA unbeaten streak to 42 games after the draw.

The Lions will be playing the McMaster Marauders at the Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton, Ont. on Wednesday, Oct., 2nd. Kick-off is at 8pm.
