The York University Lions women's soccer team tied with the Guelph Gryphons, the second-place team in the OUA West division, by a score of 2-2 this Sunday in Guelph, Ont.
All the scoring action of the game took place within the first 19 minutes of the game.
The game had only debarked five minutes when first-year
Vanessa Salvaggio scored the first goal of the game, making it the first goal of her career as a Lion, which was assisted by forward
Marissa Castellano.
The Gryphons were able to respond soon after with a goal of their own and tied the game 1-1 temporarily until they scored again, taking the game to a 2-1 lead in the home team's favour.
After a series of corner kicks from the Lions captain
Farkhunda Muhtaj, York's
Kiyani Johnson was able to connect on one, securing the second and final goal for the Lions.
Though neither team was able to find the back of the net during the second period, the Lions, who had six shots in the first half, were able to continue their strong offense with another three shots in the second half.
The game ended as a tie and the Lions currently have a 2-1-5 season record sitting in sixth place. The Gryphons remain in second place in the OUA West division with a 6-1-2 record.
The Lions will be playing the McMaster Marauders at the Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton, Ont. on Wednesday, Oct., 2nd. The game will begin at 6pm.
