Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

LIONS EARN DRAW AT FIRST ROAD GAME

The York University Lions women's soccer team played to a draw against the Waterloo Warriors at their first road game of the season on Sunday afternoon in Waterloo.

The Lions would strike first early in the opening half when Kiyani Johnson's cross found Kendra Saxton in the 18 yard box for her first goal of the season. The fourth-year striker would not fail to bury the ball into the net.

But the Warriors would eventually find an answer with a goal of their own off a corner kick. Waterloo's Ainsleigh Sedore would also score her first goal of the season in the 41st minute, keeping the score level heading into halftime.

The Lions faced a scare in the second half when the Warriors were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute. But veteran keeper Tamara Orlando was up to the task, as she was able to put a hand on Ciara Dunne's shot. Orlando finished the game with four saves, salvaging a much needed point for her team.

The score would remain the same for the remainder of the match, ending in a 1-1 draw.

The Lions end the weekend with a 1-1-1 record sitting fourth in the West Division, while the Warriors picked up their first point of the season moving up to sixth.

The Lions will return home next weekend as they play host to the division leading Western Mustangs on Friday at Alumni Field. Kickoff is set for 6pm.
