LIONS TAKE DOWN GAELS IN 4-1 WIN ON THE ROAD

The No. 10 nationally ranked York University Lions women's hockey team beat the Queen's Gaels 4-1 on Saturday night, their second win of the same score this weekend, during an away game in Kingston, Ont.

The Lions opened the first period of the game scoring the first three of their four goals. Taylor Coward started the game off with a goal, assisted by captain Kelsey McHolm and Brooke Anderson. This was soon followed by a goal from Ellen Donaldson, which was assisted by Leah Hibbert.

With just 35 seconds left on the clock, McHolm scored the third goal for the Lions and her eighth goal of the season. By the end of the first period, the Lions led 3-0 against the Gaels.

The Gaels had a total of eight shots-on-goal in the second and were able to get one past the Lions 2:36 into the period. The Lions were able to get six shots on the Gaels, however, they were unable to get any goals past the home team.

The third period saw the Lions and the Gaels neck-in-neck with shot attempts, Lions with 10 and Gaels with nine. However, it was York's Samantha Jones scored a goal past the Gaels and registered her first goal of the season, which was assisted by Anderson.

The Lions finished off the period defending their net and goaltender Lauren Dubie earned the win with 17 saves.

The Lions, who are now 12-5-0-1, will be playing the Guelph Gryphons on Wednesday Jan, 22 at 7:30pm at the Gryphon Centre Arena.
