LIONS SLIP TO GRYPHONS IN 3-1 ROAD LOSS

The York University Lions women's hockey team lost 3-1 to the Guelph Gryphons on Wednesday evening in Guelph, Ont.

Though the first period saw a total of nine shots from the Gryphons and five from the Lions, the period remained scoreless for both teams.

It was in the second period of the game when Guelph's Miranda Lantz scored the first goal of the contest within the first five minutes of the period, in what would be the only goal of the frame. The second period ended 1-0 for the home team.

In the third period the Gryphons added two more goals to the scoreboard. They led 3-0 until the Lions' Christina Chin helped York get on the scoreboard with assists from Samantha Jones and Taylor Davison.

Though the Lions and the Gryphons were able to remain close in shot attempts, 26 and 23 respectively, it was ultimately Guelph who was able to keep their net almost free from the puck.

The Lions are now 12-7-0-1 on the year and will be taking on the Brock Badgers on Saturday at Canlan Ice Sports in their next contest. The game is also York's annual Bell Let's Talk contest and the Roar for a Cure event.
