LIONS WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT WITH CONVINCING WIN OVER LAKERS

The York University Lions women's basketball team won its fourth straight contest on Friday afternoon with an 84-70 victory over the Nipissing Lakers in the annual School Day Game at the Tait McKenzie Centre.

Playing in front of hundreds of school children, the Lions did not disappoint as they raced out to a 24-17 first quarter lead and never looked back. The home squad outscored its opponents in every quarter to improve its record to 9-6 and remain in third place in the OUA Central Division standings.

Third-year forward Lauren Golding recorded her fifth consecutive double-double, this time with a game-high 28 points and 13 rebounds. She remains the OUA's rebounding leader with 11.3 per game and has moved into the top 10 in scoring with 15.3 points per game.

A dominant first half was all the Lions needed to put the game away. They led 39-28 at the half, and the Lakers never got closer than 10 points in the second half.

Also having a monster game was fifth-year guard Katrina Collins-Samuels, who led all players with 19 rebounds and picked up the double-double with 10 points. Megan MacLeod also reached double digits with 10 points and added seven rebounds.

The Lions will look to add to their winning streak on Saturday when they return to home court to face the Laurentian Voyageurs beginning at 6pm.
