The York University Lions men's hockey team continued its late-season surge on Thursday night with a 4-2 win over the Waterloo Warriors at Columbia Ice Fields in Waterloo, Ont.
The Lions have now earned points in four straight games, winning three of them.
Morgan Messenger is a big reason why the Lions have been picking up points. He scored the winning goal against the Warriors and added an assist on the final goal and now has seven points (four goals, three assists) in his last three games.
On Thursday night, it was
David D'Agostino who got the scoring started with a goal just 2:34 into the opening frame for a 1-0 Lions lead. It was the only goal of the first period.
The Lions again went to work early in the second.
David Sherman found the back of the net just over four minutes in to make the score 2-0. Ten minutes later the Warriors cut into the deficit on a goal by Michael Morgan, but Messenger's tally three minutes after that increased the lead to two again and the visitors led 3-1 after 40 minutes.
Mid way through the third, the Warriors capitalized on a power play chance as Zac Coulter scored to get his team to within one. It didn't last long, however, as Lions captain
Scott Feser scored a power play goal of his own to round out the scoring.
The Lions have just two games remaining on the schedule this season. They will travel downtown to Ryerson next Wednesday for a day game against the Rams, and will wrap up the season on Saturday night with a home game against the Laurier Golden Hawks at Canlan Ice Sports.
