LIONS END HOME SCHEDULE WITH SWEEP OF EXCALIBUR

On Friday, the York University Lions women's volleyball team swept the Excalibur 3-0 in their final home game of the season at the Tait McKenzie Centre.

Prior to the game, the Lions recognized their graduating players, Sarah Williams, Kayla Clennon, Justine Jones, Tara Leithead and Aleksandra Steins.

In the first quarter, the Excalibur came out strong as they scored the first points of the game, but the Lions were quick to come back. The Lions took the lead and widened it with a kill from Williams, followed by a service ace from Clennon. The Lions dominated the first set leading the Excalibur by 10 points at the technical timeout. The break didn't slow the Lions down as Jessica Reynolds scored a fantastic kill to keep the team ahead. Reynolds scored a service ace to give the Lions the setpoint, and a block error ended the first with an overwhelming 25-11 win.

In the second set, the Lions did not let off the gas pedal as Wesley-Ann Bailey scored the team's opening point with a smooth kill. They dominated over their opponents and gained points from their defensive plays. A quick kill from Clennon gave the Lions the setpoint in the second set, and a kill from Mae MacNeil gave the Lions a second set win of 25-22.

In the third set, the Lions once again came out strong, gaining the first point on a service ace from Leithead. After trading points back and forth, the Lions broke away with the lead and a kill from Reynolds followed by an attack error gave the Lions a 16-13 advantage. A kill from Steins gave the Lions the match point followed by a kill from Jordan Neely to win the set 25-14 and sweep the Excalibur.

Reynolds finished the night as the team's leading scorer with 13.5 points.

The Lions will play their final game of the season away this Sunday in Toronto against the Varsity Blues at 1pm.
