YORK SHOWS OFF OFFENSIVE DEPTH IN WIN OVER TRENT

ARPAN KAUR // yorkulions.ca

The York University Lions women's soccer team finished strong in wet and windy conditions, winning 4-2 at home over the Trent Excalibur Friday night at Alumni Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • York enjoyed an impressive first-half performance, taking a surprising 3-1 lead into half time. They outshot the Excalibur 13-1 in that frame, maintaining the majority of possession.
  • It took no time for York to grab the lead early in the game. In the sixth minute, Marissa Castellano drilled a low shot past Excalibur keeper Imogen Bellinger. Vanessa Salvaggio got the assist for York, and the score was 1-0.
  • Trent puts themselves on the board by scoring a goal off a penalty kick in the 41st minute from Alyssa Nikkel.
  • York would add onto their lead in the 63rd minute. Sabrina Fabiano was in the right place, heading in the cross off a Kalifornia Mitchell corner kick, giving York a 3-1 advantage.
  • Mitchell would add a goal of her own to cement the Lions victory.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
  • York extends their winning streak to three games, remaining undefeated at home.
  • Coming off a York female athlete of the week award for the period ending Oct. 10, Bianca Jack continued her impressive play by registering a goal on her only shot.
  • Imogen Bellinger competed for the full 90 minutes in the Excalibur net. She made seven saves to hold the Lions offence to four goals.
