In a possible playoff preview, two early goals helped propel the York University Lions men's soccer team their biggest win of the OUA season yet, downing their fellow nationally ranked opponent, the Carleton Ravens, 2-0 at the Ravens Perch Friday night.
The win catapults the Lions into first place in the OUA East for the first time this season, surpassing Carleton to become the title holders in advance of their Sunday afternoon rematch in Toronto.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- York had a strong first half with both goals coming in the first half to take a crucial 2-0 lead.
- Soji Olatoye opened the night for the Lions, scoring in the 24th minute, securing his third goal in six games this season.
- Omar Marzouk, who was named York male athlete of the week for the period ending Oct. 17, continued his remarkable play by scoring an insurance goal in the 43rd minute. To top off his memorable night, Marzouk was named the MVP of the match.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- After an outstanding performance by the Lions, they now move up to the first rank, leading the OUA East division.
- York extends their winning streak to six games, looking to extend it to seven games with a win at home.
