Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

LIONS PUT UP 10 GOALS ON RMC IN THIRD STRAIGHT VICTORY

Omar Marzouk had a hat trick, Merci Yuma scored two, helping the York University Lions men's soccer team put on an offensive clinic against the RMC Paladins Saturday afternoon. An offensive explosion resulted in a 10-2 York victory, their third of the 2021 season.

It was the first time the Lions put up double-digit scoring since Oct. 13, 2019 against Algoma, and just the second time in the last decade.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • York had a golden opportunity to open the scoring with a penalty in the game's fourth minute, and they turned to Marzouk for the chance. He made no mistake with a low shot to the wide-open right side of the net, making the score 1-0.
  • Marzouk's second goal came in the 18th minute, taking a beautiful pass from Yuma to spring him on a breakaway and he placed the ball behind starting RMC keeper Hunter Adams for a 2-0 York Lead.
  • It wouldn't be a 2021 Lions men's soccer game without offensive production from Yuma, and he made his first contribution in the 35th minute with a shot through some defenders and into the RMC net, making the score 3-0.
  • The duration of York's scoring came in bunches. The Lions scored four goals in the span of eight minutes toward the end of the first half, which included Marzouk's hat trick goal.
  • They then had three more goals within three minutes at the end of the contest, with markers coming in the 80th, 83rd and 84th minutes.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
  • York's advanced offensive play was reflected in the game's shot count – they had 10, with 20 of them on target.

LOOKING AHEAD

York will return to the field looking for a win against one of the OUA east's .500 teams, the Trent Excalibur. They play a home-and-home against Trent, beginning with a game in Peterborough, Ont. on Friday, Oct. 15, before returning to York Lions Stadium to host them on Sunday, Oct. 17.
