Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

NO. 10 LAKERS DOWN LIONS IN OUA SEMIS REMATCH

The York University Lions women's hockey team faced off against the No. 10 nationally ranked Nipissing Lakers for the first time since knocking them off in the OUA semifinals in 2020 but did not replicate that result, instead falling by a score of 6-0 at Memorial Gardens in North Bay, Ont.

The Lions are still looking for their first win of the regular season after a pair of losses last weekend to the Rams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lakers scored once in the first period, twice in the second and three times in the third to post the lopsided victory.
  • The second goal of the game came courtesy of a penalty shot at 10:14 of the second frame. Maria Dominico scored her second of the night on the shot. She also scored the fourth goal to record the hat trick.
  • The Lakers also scored once on the power play in the third period.

NOTABLE NUMBERS
  • York goaltender Serena Vilde played all 60 minutes and stopped 23 of the 29 shots she faced.
  • The Lions fired 19 shots at Nipissing goalie Chantelle Sandquist.

LOOKING AHEAD

These two teams will complete their first home-and-home series of the season on Sunday afternoon when they hit the ice at Canlan Ice Sports on Sunday afternoon. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:15pm.
