A 15-0 run in the dying minutes of the fourth quarter was the difference for the Nipissing Lakers. They rode that streak for much of the game's final frame en route to a 66-60 win over the York University Lions men's basketball team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions kicked-off their second game against the Lakers with some heat, starting with a nine-point run led by Prince Kamunga, who scored eight of the team's nine points, giving the Lions a major lift to open the game.
- The Lakers tried to push their way back into the game in the second quarter, cutting the lead to 29-23.
- Nonetheless, the Lions managed to hold on with two back-to-back monstrous slam dunks by Kamunga, forcing the Lakers bench to call an early timeout two minutes into the third quarter.
- The Lakers offence took off in the fourth quarter, scoring a total of 27 points, led by 11 points from Lakers forward Nick Gehlen.
- A three-pointer from Brendon Chevannes led a Lions comeback in the waning minutes, as York tried to claw their way back into the game, but it wasn't enough to seal the victory.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
"There's a lot of room to improve even after the win yesterday, there's a ton of adjustments that need to be made. We need to get back to the drawing board and continue to improve every day in practice to give ourselves a chance to compete against Carleton." — Head coach
Nate Philippe
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- The Lions were led by Kamunga with 15 points and three steals, accompanied by Tyler Pryce with 13 points, four assists and nine rebounds, just shy of a double-double.
