Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

LIONS VICTIM OF BIG RAVENS THIRD QUARTER IN HOME COURT LOSS

ARPAN KAUR // yorkulions.ca

After a hard night against an exceptional opponent, the York University Lions men's basketball team returned to the court seeking to improve their 1-1 home record, but fell short 92-71 to the No. 1 nationally ranked Carleton Ravens Friday night at Tait McKenzie Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lions got out to a promising start, with guard Prince Kamunga finding his stride early in the game, netting 11 of the game's first 21 points in 10 minutes, leading the Lions past the Ravens in a tight first quarter by 21-20.
  • The Ravens soon regained control of the game in the second quarter, going on an 8-0 run. But the Lions continued to find offensive opportunities, as Somto Dimanochie drilled a massive three in the final minutes of the second, followed by a steal by Brendon Chevannes, resulting in a fast-break layup by Tyler Pryce to trim the margin to three right before the halftime buzzer.
  • Despite a hard-fought fourth quarter, the Lions were unable to maintain their pace, as the Ravens improved their undefeated regular season record to 5-0.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

"It came down to the third quarter where they out-executed us and we let it get away from us. Other than that, we played three strong quarters. We took better care of the ball than we have recently and executed better offensively. There were some positives to build on." — Head coach Nate Philippe

NOTABLE NUMBERS
  • The Lions were led by Kamunga's big-time performance of 25 points, six rebounds, six blocks, and five steals. Pryce accumulated 14 points, four assists, and two steals, followed by ??Warsame Mohamed who led the bench with 11 points and an assist.
  • The Ravens were led by their double-digit starters; Lloyd Pandi with 19 points, Alain Louis with 17 points, Grant Shephard with 15 points, and Connor Vreeken with 12 points.
LOOKING AHEAD

Lions return to home court on Saturday, Nov. 27, as they face the Ravens again in their back-to-back clash, eyeing an act of revenge and their second win of the season before the December winter break. The game is slated to begin at 5 pm.
