Two quick second period goals from the visiting Toronto Varsity Blues sunk the York University Lions men's hockey team Saturday afternoon. They dropped their contest 5-2 after taking an early lead in the first period.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- York wasted no time turning on the jets at the beginning of the game, opening the scoring just 13 seconds into the first period on a break by CJ Clarke.
- Toronto would have a response though, at 3:52 they were able to get back on level terms courtesy of a goal from defender Jake Brien. Kyle Potts, who notched a hat trick against Toronto, drew an assist on the goal.
- York then got into penalty trouble after Xavier Pouliot was ejected from the game for a check from behind, but Nik Malenica flipped the script with a shorthanded goal off a perfectly timed pass from Jordan McKenna. The shorthanded marker at 12:33 restored York's lead and gave them an advantage heading to the intermission.
- Ross Kreiger had a response again as the Varsity Blues would tie the game with a sniped one-time shot over Brendan Bonello's shoulder at 3:51. Kreiger would then assist on Danny Katic's third of the season five minutes later giving Toronto the go-ahead goal.
- Insurance Markers from Owen Robinson and Billy Moskal sealed the win for the visitors.
