Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

RAMS EXTEND LIONS’ LOSING STREAK

David Miller had a hat trick for the Rams as they took a decisive 5-1 win over the York University Lions men's hockey team through four straight goals Thursday night in York's first game back from a season pause.

The loss is York's fifth in a row, dating back to a Nov. 6 overtime loss at Lakehead. However, this is only the second game in that streak which the Lions dropped by more than one goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Rams wasted no time converting on their opportunities, taking advantage of a Lions turnover in the first period. Jackson Doherty picked a pass off and fed it to Miller, who fired a shot past Cole Ceci at 6:37 of the opening frame, making it 1-0 Rams.
  • York had a response, however, coming from Owen Gilhula at 11:47 of the same period. The rookie and four-year OHLer scored his first career OUA goal, with CJ Clarke and Nik Malenica drawing assists on the play.
  • Gilhula's landmark goal would be the only one of the night for the Lions, however, as the Rams proceeded to score four more unanswered, including two extras from Miller to seal a hat trick, capping off a 5-1 win at home over York.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
  • Ceci made 29 saves in a losing effort between the pipes for the Lions.
LOOKING AHEAD

York and the Rams will renew their battle again on Saturday at Canlan Ice Sports, as the Lions will aim to get back into the win column and exact some revenge when they have final change and hone ice advantage.
