Six goals from six different players sealed the victory for the York University Lions men's hockey team, as they opened the 2021-22 campaign with a convincing 6-2 victory on the road against the Lakehead Thunderwolves in Thunder Bay, Ont.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brendan Yeamans got the scoring underway for York just 8:57 into the first period, and the Lions added a second marker right before the end of the first period from Braydon Buziak.
- York's next two goals came in quick succession during the second period, first from team captain Justin Bean on the man advantage. He took a pass from Brendan Browne and rifled a shot through traffic, beating Lakehead netminder Blake Weyrick at 11:29.
- Then, at 12:32, Lucas Theriault found the back of the net with an unassisted goal.
- York would add two more in the third period, with veterans Browne and Xavier Pouliot both registering their first goals of the season.
- York netminder Cole Ceci put up a brick wall between the pipes during the third period, and held off all 13 third period Lakehead shots directed his way. He made 39 saves on the evening.
