The York University Lions women's basketball team opened the 2021-22 season with a 76-52 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees at Montpetit Hal in the nation's capital.

Christa Eniojukan's first contest at the helm of the program, the Lions were in tough against a formidable Gee-Gees squad that is a perennial contender in the OUA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Gee-Gees wasted little time opening up a big lead, outscoring the Lions 20-5 in the first quarter and they stretched that lead another five points in the second to lead 36-16 at the half.
- Lauren Golding took matters into her own hands in the third quarter, scoring eight of her 13 points. The quarter was closer but the Gee-Gees still stretched their lead to 24.
- The two squads played an even fourth quarter. Kirsten McGrath led the Lions with six points in the frame, on two made three-point shots.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- Cyanna King led all Lions with 14 points and added seven rebounds and one steal. She was an efficient 5-of-8 from the field.
- Lauren Golding, who was one of only two OUA players to average a double-double in 2019-20, picked up where she left off with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Lions will be right back on the court on Saturday to face the Gee-Gees again, with tip-off set for 2pm at Montpetit Hall.
