Game Recap: Field Hockey |

LIONS REMAIN UNBEATEN WITH DRAW OF TORONTO

In their biggest test of the season thus far, the York Lions field hockey team proved they are among the titans of the OUA with a draw of the Toronto Varsity Blues, the reigning OUA finalist, on the road at the Varsity Back Campus Fields Wednesday night.

It was a game where the Lions opened the scoring and were able to hold off a later charge from the Varsity Blues, who had won all of their regular season OUA games up to this point.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Amber Sandhu notched her fourth point in two games with a goal to open the scoring in the early portions of the second quarter off a penalty corner.
  • The Lions lead wouldn't last until halftime, however, after the Varsity Blues received a penalty corner of their own in the 28th minute, and rookie McKinley Kenney notched her first OUA goal to tie the game 1-1. That would stand as the game's final scoring play.
  • Lions goalkeeper Serena Vilde got the start in goal for York, earning the tie and remaining unbeaten on the season after she shut out Queen's 3-0 in her first start of the year on Sept. 26.
LOOKING AHEAD

Both of these squads will have multiple more opportunities to do battle in coming weeks. This content was the first of four straight games against Toronto for the Lions, with the next contest set for next Wednesday, Oct. 6, also at the Varsity Back Campus Fields in Toronto, Ont.
