Maia Torelli's two goals led the York Lions women's soccer team to their second win of the season, and second over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, in a dominating 4-1 win where the Lions limited their opponents to two shots on goal.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- York took control of the contest in the game's early stages, with a goal coming from Torelli, scoring her first OUA goal in the game's 12th minute on a hot shot from mid-range, beating Ontario Tech keeper Alicia Chisolm for the game's icebreaker.
- They didn't have to wait long for their second marker either – Vanessa Salvaggio earned her first of the season with a dribbling shot that found its way past Chisolm in the 21st minute, making the score 2-0.
- Torelli then added her second of the game, taking a fantastic through-ball from Jotam Chouhan for a breakaway chance and depositing it into the net, making the score 3-0 York in the 47th minute.
- The Lions would then make it 4-0 moments later after a highlight reel set of moves from Kalifornia Mitchell put her past the Ontario Tech defenders and into an open space, where she finessed a perfectly-placed shot into the back of the net for a 4-0 York lead.
- Ontario Tech added a late tally from Sarah Foster to break the Patricia Vrysellas shutout bid in the 86th minute.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- York badly outshot their opponent 19-2 in the contest, dominating the offensive output and possession numbers for the game.Â
