BACK-TO-BACK LATE GOALS SEAL WIN FOR LIONS

Two York goals in the 53rd minute, including one from Frankie St. Louis in her final regular season home game as a Lion, sealed a victory over the Western Mustangs for the York University Lions field hockey team.

With the win, the Lions keep pace with Toronto and Guelph for the top spot in the OUA standings. York currently sits in third with 22 points, only one point behind the Gryphons and three behind the Blues.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lions started off on the right foot, taking the lead after some great pressure on the Mustangs defense. Mackenzie Gee scored from close range after a pass by Polly Campbell in the fourth minute of the second quarter.
  • The Mustangs tied the game with a goal coming a few minutes later via a penalty corner taken by Sophie Schmidt.
  • Natalie Winter then re-took the lead for York, afrer she had the ball returned to her and stroked it from close range.
  • York continued the scoring midway in the third quarter, with Natalie Brown curled in a great shot. This came off a penalty corner, when a penalty corner taken by Winter made its way to St. Louis. They both claimed assists.
  • Western scored a goal to halve York's advantage, making the score 3-2 with only a few minutes of time left in the final quarter.
  • Elyse Ives and St. Louis then completed win for York with two goals in quick succession to seal the victory.
