With the second-place York University Lions women's soccer team taking on the first-place Western Mustangs, it was a battle for the OUA West crown at Alumni Field.

The Mustangs came out with that crown, after they broke through with a lone goal in the 49th minute to top the Lions 1-0 at the Alumni Field Sunday afternoon.

The Lions clinch second place in the OUA West division with a 7-2-3 record behind the 9-2-1 Mustangs.

Prior to the game, York University Athletics & Recreation honoured its eight graduating Lions with memoirs. The graduating lineup was led by Catherine Umolac, followed by, Victoria Principato, Marissa Castellano, Joselyn Gagliardi, Patricia Vrysellas, Stephanie Morales, Jotam Chouhan, and Kalifornia Mitchell

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The tight contest kicked off with pressure on the Lions end, as the Mustangs managed to retain the ball in York territory for the majority of the first half. However, the Lions were able to withstand the pressure, despite being outshot 4-1 to keep it a scoreless game at halftime.
  • Four minutes into the second half, Hannah Vickers was able to break the scoreless game, as she found an opening past the red and white jerseys off a collective team play.
  • The first-year Nia Fleming-Thompson had the best look of the afternoon for a game-equalizer but struck it off the crossbar in the 67th minute.
  • Vicker's goal stood as the game-winner for Western, as they went on to win 1-0.
