BLUES EDGE YORK IN TIGHT 2-1 CONTEST AT VARSITY

NARI AMARSANAA // yorkulions.ca

Emma Wedgewood's 27 saves kept the York University Lions women's hockey team in the game, but they ultimately dropped their OUA matchup with the No. 7 nationally ranked Toronto Varsity Blues Saturday night at Varsity Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first period, the Toronto Varsity Blues broke the deadlock early into the second period with Isabella Greco scoring from Toronto. 1-0
  • The second goal of the game came about halfway through the second, with Emma Elders doubling Toronto's lead through a shot from a tight angle.
  • With just three minutes remaining in the second, Lions forward Jennifer Shaw put them back in the game, picking a corner with a beautiful wrist shot. The goal was assisted by Lexi Anonech after she pulled the puck back to Shaw from near the Toronto goal line. 2-1.
  • At the dying moments of the third period the Lions tried their best to equalize the game with Shaw and Brooke Anderson creating chances from inside the Toronto end. But it was not meant to be as the Lions lose the game 2-1.
LOOKING AHEAD

This loss puts the Lions' record to a 3-6-0 and in fourth place in the OUA East. However, they have a quick opportunity to redeem themselves, when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks Sunday, Nov. 20 at Canlan Sports. The game is set for a 2:15 pm puck drop.
