Jillian Milligan's second goal of the game was the overtime winner for the York University Lions women's hockey team. They downed the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Canlan Sports, weathering a late Golden Hawks comeback.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • York began the game with an early goal scored Milligan, coming just three minutes into the first period. Abbey McMillan recorded her first-career OUA point on the play, drawing an assist, and the Lions held a 1-0 lead.
  • Julia Cuccia later doubled York's lead shorthanded, using her speed to get behind the defenders and creating a breakaway. Her initial shot bounced off Laurier goaltender Acadia Carlson, but Cuccia got her own rebound and made it 2-0 before the end of the first period.
  • However, right after the Lions made it 2-0, Laurier was given a 5-on-3 and they made good on their opportunity. Mackenzie Marshall gathered the puck amongst a crowd and scored five-hole to get one back for the Golden Hawks.
  • Laurier managed to equalize in the second period, coming out more aggressive and more dominant on offense. The goal came from Tieneke Gedge after a shot was dropped and she gathered the rebound in the last few minutes of the second period.
  • After a scoreless third period, Milligan suitably earned her second of the game, winning it for the Lions two minutes into overtime.
