NARI AMARSANAA // yorkulions.ca

It was the Waterloo Warriors who came out on top against the York University Lions women's hockey team, scoring early and often en route to a 4-1 win in Waterloo, Ont. Sunday afternoon.

Waterloo scored in the first and second periods, adding two in each frame, but failing to score in the final period with the Lions' defence showing an improvement.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Warriors grabbed their first goal through Megan Dyck after spending most of the first period inside York's zone.
  • However just seconds later, the Lions surprised the Warriors with an equalizer after a rush by Lexi Anonech, who then set up Brooke Anderson for a tap-in.
  • With seven minutes remaining in the first period, Warriors retook their lead with Tatum James scoring during a brief powerplay from Waterloo.
  • Leah Herrfort made it 3-1 Waterloo midway through the second period to double the Warriors' advantage.
  • Shortly thereafter, Tatum James scored her second of the game with a powerful shot to the top corner of the net to make it 4-1 to Waterloo.
  • In the third period, York found themselves alscoring opportunity with Anderson slipping past two defenders for a shot, bit it was deflected off the Warriors' defender
  • With seven minutes remaining, Waterloo created a rebound shot from the center of the penalty circle but the Lions' goaltender Julianna Thomson was once again there to produce a big save.
