One goal was all the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks needed in a tight-checking contest between them and the York University Lions women's hockey team. The loss drops York's record to 2-7-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions made valiant attempts at the net all game long, outshooting the Ridgebacks 39-23. However, Mia Rogers' goal in the first period at 11:57, was all the Ridgebacks needed to put behind Juliana Thomson to secure their third win of the season.
- The Lions peppered Ontario Tech with 16 third period shots in an attempt to tie the game, but were unable to beat netminder Zoe McGee.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- Thomson and McGee were impressive between the pipes throughout the game. Thomson made 22 saves and McGee made 39 saves, stopping every shot that came her way.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Lions head up north to take on the Nipissing Lakers on Thursday, Feb. 24 in their third face-off of the season. After two straight losses on Nov. 12 and Nov. 14, the Lions look to take revenge. The puck drop is scheduled for 5 pm at the Memorial Gardens.
