The York University women's basketball team defeated the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks to complete the series sweep by a score of 87-63 on Saturday afternoon at Tait Mackenzie Centre.

This contest was not much different from their last meeting with the Ridgebacks on Feb. 16, when they defeated the Ridgebacks 79-57. With the win, the Lions are still sitting in fifth place in the OUA East standings with six games remaining in the regular season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions kicked off the game putting together a 9-0 run in the first three minutes, with the first six straight points coming from Kiara Leveridge. The Lions take a commanding 29-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- The Lions continue their momentous run alive in the second quarter, with Ashanti Christian leading the way for the Lions with six points in the quarter with two clutch three-pointers. Ridgebacks guard Hadeza Ismaila tried to respond back with eight points in the quarter, but it wasn't enough to match the Lions. York led 47-26 into halftime.Â
- The Ridgebacks made a courageous attempt in the third, outscoring the Lions 19-17, but it was not enough to make the game within reach.
- The fourth quarter was a crowd-pleaser, with every Lions basket getting the fans up and out of their seats, as the Lions cruised to an emphatic victory.Â

NOTABLE NUMBERS
- The Lions were led by four of its starters in double figures including, Lauren Golding and Leveridge with double-doubles, who both had double-doubles, scoring 14 points and grabbing 15 and 12 rebounds, respectively. Not far behind after was Jada Codrington and Emma Jonas with 10 points each.
- The Lions had a great game at the free-throw line, shooting 77.4 per cent.
LOOKING AHEAD

The Lions get ready to hit a five-game road trip, with their first stop in Sudbury, Ont., where they will familiarize themselves with a new opponent, the Laurentian Voyageurs on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at the Ben F. Avery Gymnasium. The tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm.
