LIONS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT WITH LOPSIDED VICTORY OVER VOYAGEURS

The York University Lions women's basketball team used a strong first half to cruise past the Laurentian Voyageurs 84-58 on the road in Sudbury, Ont., on Wednesday night.

The win marked the squad's third in a row, following back-to-back victories over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks last week. The Lions have now pulled level with the Voyageurs in the OUA East Division standings with matching 6-5 records.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Laurentian started out strong and held the early advantage, but the Lions finally took their first lead at 12-11 midway through the first quarter and never looked back. They would not trail again for the rest of the game.
  • The Lions outscored the Voyageurs 24-19 in the first quarter and 25-10 in the second to lead by a wide margin, 49-29, at the half.
  • The Voyageurs outscored the Lions 22-17 in the third quarter but it was not nearly enough to get back into the game. York dominated again in the fourth and cruised to the victory.

NOTABLE NUMBERS
  • Reigning OUA athlete of the week Lauren Golding recorded another double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds in 21 minutes of action. She shot an efficient 6-of-9 from the floor and added one assist and one steal.
  • Leading the Lions in scoring was Jada Codrington with 14 points, as well as three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
  • Also reaching double digits in scoring was Alexis Grewal with 12.
  • Laurentian's leading scorer was Bailey Tabin, who put up 18 points in the loss.
