Two goals 10 seconds apart made all the difference for the Toronto Varsity Blues. Those second period goals carried them past the York University Lions men's hockey team in a tight 3-2 decision at Varsity Arena Tuesday night.
Â
The loss for York drops their record to 5-5-2, and Toronto sneaks into a tie with York for third place in the OUA West Division standings. Playoff implications will continue when the teams renew acquaintances later this week at York.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- David D'Agostino got the scoring going just past the halfway mark of the first period. He picked up a loose puck in a dangerous area and rifled a wrist shot past Alex Bishop at 11:53 to open the scoring.
- The Blues would answer back in a big way before the end of the game's opening period. First, Owen Robinson beat Lions goaltender Dalton Ewing from the right side at 19:27, then they scored again 10 seconds later with a Billy Moskal wrist shot cleared the glove of Ewing and found the back of the net.
- Kyle Potts would add some insurance on the power play in the third period, when he beat a Lions defender to the puck and poked it into the open net at 6:24.
- That extra goal cushion proved to be valuable for Toronto, because the Lions made a game out of it at 15:57 when Lucas Breault took a pass from Brendan Browne and roofed it short side past Bishop. That would be the end of the scoring in the game, however, despite the Lions pulling their goalie for an extra attacker.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- D'Agostino's goal was his second this year, and second at Varsity Arena.
- Ewing's start was his first nod of the year, where he took the loss but was solid in stopping 26 Blues shorts.
